You are picked up either from the rail station or Kannur International Airport by our representative and begin your Wayanad tour through Lakkidi viewpoint. The viewpoint from Lakkidi viewpoint is gorgeous. You then get to check-in to your hotel, followed by an afternoon tour and boating in the peaceful Pookode Lake. On your way back, you get to explore En Ooru Tribal Heritage Village where you will witness first-hand thatched villages, craft traditions, alongside daily indigenous lifestyles, rather than visiting any museum. By evening, you are free to go shopping on your own.
Explore the thrilling 900 Kandi Glass Bridge, Edakkal Cave & Ripon Tea Factory
Day 2 will be a long day so it starts a little early, from where we set ourselves for exploring the 900 Kandi Glass Bridge on a 4X4 open jeep, riding along the unpaved forest track. On this transparent suspension bridge, you can witness the lush green cliff-edge and the valley canopy that opens to the wider Western Ghats. This spot is followed by a trip to the historic Ripon Tea Factory. In the afternoon, you head towards the spectacular Edakkal Cave with ancient wall carvings that dates back to 6000 BCE. But reaching this cave requires you to go almost 1.5 km uphill that takes about 45 minutes. It is best to visit this cave before noon, especially on weekends.
Engage in exploring Banasura Sagar Dam and Speed Boating & Kannur Drop
Bansura Sagar Dam is popular as the largest earthen dam in India which is an exciting spot for tourists where you can witness the reservoir behind this dam scattered with multiple small islands. It will be a small uphill walk to the top of the dam from the parking area, but don’t worry, it is an easy walk. While returning from this site, you can get a small window to shop for handicrafts and spices. It is best to shop for bamboo crafts, black pepper, coffee and cardamom, but you need to have good bargaining skills as shops in Kalpetta are honestly highly priced compared to roadside stalls. From Kalpetta, you then leave again for Kannur which is your departure location to your respective rail station or airport. Just in case your flight or train is scheduled after 6 pm, we add Karapuzha Dam on this trip list.
