October to March (Best Season)
You get dry weather in Kochi, cool mornings in Munnar, comfortable boat rides at Periyar, calm backwaters in Alleppey and safe swimming conditions at Varkala. This is the ideal window for the full route.
April to May (Summer)
The coast turns hot and humid, but Munnar and Thekkady stay pleasant. Wildlife sightings at Periyar improve because animals gather at the lake, and beach crowds thin out.
June to September (Monsoon)
Prices drop to their lowest and the landscape turns deep green. The Nehru Trophy Boat Race usually falls in August, and Ayurvedic treatment centres in Varkala consider this their peak season. However the sea turns rough, swimming stops at Varkala, Munnar viewpoints stay misty and Eravikulam National Park normally closes for calving season.
This 6 Nights/7 Days tour starts at Kochi and ends at Trivandrum, so book a one-way arrival flight into Kochi and a departure flight out of Trivandrum.
Here is the Route Flow:
Kochi → Adimali → Munnar → Thekkady → Alleppey → Varkala → Trivandrum
By Air
You land at Cochin International Airport (COK), the busiest airport in Kerala, which receives direct flights from Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and most Gulf cities. You fly out from Trivandrum International Airport (TRV), which is equally well connected.
By Train
You get down at Ernakulam Junction (ERS) or Ernakulam Town (ERN) at the start, and board from Thiruvananthapuram Central (TVC) or Varkala Sivagiri (VAK) at the end.
By Road
Kochi sits on NH 66 and NH 544, so KSRTC and private buses run to it from Bengaluru, Chennai, Coimbatore and Mangaluru. The whole route follows NH 66 southward, and Trivandrum connects onward to Kanyakumari and Madurai.
You travel in a private vehicle with a local driver who stays with you from Kochi all the way to Trivandrum.
We plan the route in a single southward line, so you never repeat a road or waste a day driving back
We book your Periyar Lake boat tickets and Eravikulam National Park slot in advance, since both sell out early.
We select houseboats we have personally checked, so you get a clean boat and a proper onboard kitchen.
We advise you on the right arrival and departure flight timings before you book your tickets.
You reach us on WhatsApp during the trip, not just before booking.
Why does this trip end at Trivandrum instead of Kochi?
Ending at Trivandrum saves you a full day of driving back north. Varkala sits only 1.5 hours from Trivandrum airport, so you get a beach morning instead of a highway day.
Do we need separate arrival and departure flights?
Yes. Book your arrival into Cochin International Airport (COK) and your departure from Trivandrum International Airport (TRV). Both are well connected, and we can advise on timings.
Is the houseboat private or shared?
It is private. You get your own boat with a crew, bedrooms, a living area, an open deck and an onboard chef.
Can we swim at Varkala?
Yes, at Papanasam Beach. Always follow the lifeguard flags, and note that swimming stops during the monsoon months when the sea turns rough.
How many hotel changes are there?
Five. You stay one night in Kochi, two nights in Munnar, one night in Thekkady, one night on the houseboat and one night in Varkala.
Can we replace Varkala with Kovalam?
Yes. Kovalam sits closer to Trivandrum and suits travellers who prefer a resort beach over a cliff town. Tell us and we swap the stay.
Is this suitable for senior citizens?
Yes. The drives stay spread out across the week and the walking stays light. Only the Varkala cliff steps and the Eravikulam trail need some effort, and both are optional.
Can we enter Padmanabhaswamy Temple?
Non-Hindus are not permitted inside the sanctum, and the temple enforces a strict traditional dress code. You can still visit the complex and the surrounding area.
Will we see a tiger at Periyar?
Tiger sightings are rare and never guaranteed. Most visitors spot wild elephants, gaur, sambar deer, wild boar, otters and plenty of birds.
