Perched in the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas, Kalimpong came to me as a plot twist from a thrilling adventure novel. The misty monasteries, bustling bazaars and the cactus nurseries were filled with stories in each corner. Once I stepped foot on the Deolo Hills while witnessing fluffy clouds over the Teesta river, I felt like I had stepped into another magical world.
You can expect peace and serenity, wrapped in the charm of the colonial era and surrounded by warm-hearted people, from this destination. It's a slow-travel beauty where you'll want to return every time.
Kalimpong is situated at an elevation of around 1,250 meters above sea level, perched between the Relli and the Teesta Rivers, overlooking charming views of the Eastern Himalayas. This town is situated along the forest ridges and rolling hills, encompassed by straggling tea gardens, wild orchids and pine trees.
The unique geography of the region is dotted with alpine and tropical flora surrounded by drifting mist. The roads here twist around the terraced farmland and cloud-kissed cliffs, and the sunrises here are postcard-worthy amid breathtakingly lush-green valleys.
