Mirik is a fantastic hill station situated just 40 km from Darjeeling, surrounded by the pristine beauty of the tea gardens and hills, and it seems like stepping into a picturesque postcard scenery. The tranquillity of the lakes, the vibrant rolling hills, and the spectacular mountain view promise that the trip to Mirik will remain memorable in the hearts and minds of tourists.
You can expect riverside serenity, pleasant weather and tea-scented air from Mirik. I enjoy a slow-paced time in Mirik during my trip, which feels like an escape into the lap of nature away from the chaos of Darjeeling town.
Mirik is a quaint and scenic town situated in the Darjeeling district of West Bengal, surrounded by breathtaking landscapes, lush greenery and a tranquil atmosphere. It is situated beautifully at an elevation of about 1,495 meters in the lap of the Eastern Himalayas. Mirik is landscaped by cardamom plantations, orange orchards and pine-covered hills. This region enjoys a pleasantly cool climate all year round, with occasional rains and misty mornings enriching its charm.
Mirik experiences pleasant weather conditions throughout the year, as it is situated close to the Queen of Hills, Darjeeling. However, Mirik has a seasonal variation of weather, which is a pleasure for visitors to experience different weather conditions/temperatures during different times of their visit.

Also, the weather during this season remains pleasant, which is a great option for relaxing and enjoying outdoor activities. You can also think of exploring Mirik during the Autumn season, which is between October and November, with clear, crisp wind and pleasant weather, with a crystal-clear view of the Kanchenjungha in the backdrop, with shimmering Mirik Lake.
I visited Mirik in March, where I witnessed blooming rhododendrons, which increased the charm of the region.

Mirik Bazaar
This is a great place for tourists to get a glimpse of the local lives of the Mirik people, where you can also experience their culture and experience a non-touristic feeling here, as it is mostly neglected for its location in the north of the lake and most of the activities are observed to be continued in the south of the lake.
Mirik Monastery
Mirik Monastery, also popularly called Bokar Monastery, is another top tourist place to visit when in Mirik, which was established back in 1986, from where you can capture scintillating views of the Mirik lake surrounded by the town.
Helipad & Swiss Cottage
Don’t miss out on reaching the helipad at the hilltop, as it gives a breathtaking view from a panoramic lens of the entire Mirik town and Samendu Lake. You will also catch a fantastic view of the Kanchenjunga. This spot is also popular among locals when they desire to catch a splendid view of the mountain range surrounding the lake. The Swiss Cottages in Mirik were popular in the past as Orange Country Retreats, which are now used as great options for stays at night. However, at present, accommodations have not been operational here for several years now.
Mirik Orange Village:
While you explore Mirik, you will come across a small village road that turns east. This is known to locals as Pahilo Gaon, a place popular for its orange production and cardamom. This village will give you a non-touristic vibe and an authentic experience of village life in the hills. However, you can plan a night stay in this village, where you can avail yourself of a homestay with basic amenities.
