You can expect a tranquil vibe, Kanchenjunga views and the untouched beauty of nature from Kaffergaon. I visited Kaffergaon with my family, where we enjoyed pure mountain calmness and took a serene escape from the noise of city life.
Kaffergaon is a tranquil village roosting peacefully at an elevation of about 5,800 feet in proximity to Loleygaon in the Kalimpong district. It is located in the lap of the Eastern Himalaya, surrounded by stunning mountain views, misty hills and vibrant Pine forests. You can witness the amazing view of the surrounding hills and Kanchenjunga from Kaffergaon on clear days.

It is a biodiversity hotspot situated at a distance of 22 km from Kaffer Gaon, which you can enter via Lava and witness exotic bird species, undisturbed forest trails and rare Red Pandas. You will need a guide and a permit to explore this beautiful national park.
We reach Kaffergaon by taking a cab from Kalimpong. The road was bumpy, which made our journey adventurous and scenic. You can reach this peaceful village by the following means-

Bagdogra Airport (IXB) is the nearest to Kaffergaon with a distance of 110 km. You can take a cab from the airport to reach Kaffer Gaon via Kalimpong and Loleygaon, and it will take you about 4.5-5.5 hours.
By Train
The NJP railway station, situated at a distance of 105 km, is the nearest to Kaffergaon. You can take a taxi from NJP to reach Kaffergaon via Lava and Loleygaon.
From Siliguri
The distance between Siliguri and Loley Gaon is about 105-110 km, and the route includes Siliguri- Kalimpong- Algarah- Loley Gaon- Kaffergaon, and will take you about 5 hours to reach by road in a local vehicle.
From Darjeeling
The distance between Darjeeling and Kaffergaon is about 90 km, and the route includes- Darjeeling- Jorebunglow- Kalimpong- Algarah- Loleygaon- Kaffer Gaon, and will take you about 4.5-5 hours by road.
The lip-smacking cuisine of Kaffergaon reflects the cultural heritage of the Nepali and Lepcha communities, which they prepare using locally sourced fresh ingredients cooked in a woodfire stove.
