Lingtam is a serene hamlet where you can experience the stillness of nature and its ethereal beauty. The lifestyle here is very soulful and simple, where you can create a really strong bond with nature. You can expect genuine smiles, slow mornings and minimal noise from this serene destination. I experienced the peace and quiet ambience of Lingtam at my visit to this serene destination, the fluttering prayer flags with the breeze slowed down time, along with the whispering mountain.
Lingtam is a peaceful settlement of East Sikkim tucked in serenity in the foothills of the majestic Eastern Himalayas at an average height of around 1,524 meters. It is a part of the Old Silk Route, creating opportunities for the offbeat explorers to get mesmerised by its unmatched charm.

Lingtam can be visited and enjoyed all year round, with different kinds of experiences in different seasons. The springs here are very blooming with pleasant weather, creating opportunities to enjoy trekking, photography and sightseeing. The monsoons can be tricky with the risk of roadblocks and landslides. Autumns come with crystal clear weather and crisp, dry air, where you can enjoy cultural festivals and the best mountain views. The winters are peaceful with cold weather, which is ideal for some cosy stargazing nights. I visited Lingtam in the Spring season and got a chance to enjoy some serene time surrounded by blooming flowers and a vibrant landscape, and got to create some great memories.

At my visit to Lingtam, I explored many attractions such as Lingtam Monastery surrounded by colourful Buddhist rituals and peaceful ambience, Lingtam River Bridge surrounded by colourful prayer flags and spent a serene time by the flowing stream and also explored the quiet trails of the village surrounded by terraced farms and pine woods. I also tried some exciting activities here, such as nature walks, photography, birdwatching and interacting with the locals. Some attractions and activities of Lingtam are mentioned below-
Lingtam Monastery
It is also known as Gadi Monastery, which ranks amongst the oldest monasteries of East Sikkim. It is surrounded by traditional architecture and colourful prayer flags, where you can spend some time in self-reflection.
Lingtam Iron Bridge
This suspension bridge is situated above the serene Rolep River, where you can enjoy peaceful strolls, birdwatching and photography.
Buddha Waterfall
This is a charming waterfall, encompassed by lush greenery and is situated near a quaint Buddha statue.
Thambi Viewpoint
You can visit this viewpoint on a short day trip and enjoy the views of the charming Kanchenjunga range along with the zig-zag loops of Zuluk. It is an ideal destination for photography enthusiasts and sunrise lovers.
Zuluk
It is a serene destination which is situated at a distance of 15 km from Lingtam, where you can witness the iconic zig-zag loops and enjoy the charming views of the Mt. Kanchenjunga. It is an ideal destination for photographers and adventure enthusiasts.
Thambi Viewpoint
This is a beautiful viewpoint, situated at a distance of 20 km from Lingtam, which overlooks the popular hairpin bend. You can witness stunning sunrises and the charming beauty of the Eastern Himalayas from this region.
Rongli
This is a serene market town, situated at a distance of 10 km from Lingtam, where you can get all the required permits to explore all the protected regions. You can shop for all the essentials from this region.
Buddha Waterfall
This is a charming waterfall which is located near a small statue of Lord Budd, ha where you can enjoy nature walks and some picnic time.
By Air
The Pakyong airport, which is situated at a distance of 50 km from Lingtam, is the nearest. You can reach your destination from here by taking a cab via Rongli.
By Train
The NJP railway station, which is situated at a distance of 125 km, is the nearest to Lingtam. You can reach Rongli first in a hired cab via Rorathang or Rangpo and then proceed up to Lintam in a local cab.
By Road
From Siliguri
The distance between Siliguri and Lingtam is approximately 125 km, and the road route includes Siliguri → Sevoke → Rangpo → Rorathang → Rongli → Lingtam, which will take you around 6-7 hours.
From Darjeeling
The distance between Darjeeling and Lingtan is around 110 km, and the road route includes Darjeeling → Jorethang → Singtam → Rorathang → Rongli → Lingtam, which will take you approximately 6 hours to cover.

However, you will find some locally-run, authentic homestays here which come with guaranteed peace and comfort along with delicious meals and lots of entertaining local stories.
